Does homeowners insurance cover plumbing leaks in walls?

Depends. The quick answer is the water leaking will likely be covered with anything it damages but the pipe itself would be a maintenance issue. Where it might NOT be covered (we had this claim), where it leaks for months and months before you call a claim in. Insurance is for sudden & accidental events not continuous damage that isn’t corrected. The claim was a leak behind a shower – you didn’t see water on the floor? In the basement? Around the tub? That is why it wasn’t covered.
